We all know just how hectic school drop-off and pick-up times can be. Between packing lunchboxes, beating the morning traffic, and rushing off to work or appointments, those extra few minutes in the car can feel like a race against the clock. We completely understand the pressure of the morning rush!

However, the safety of our children must always come first. Recently, we have noticed a few drivers creeping forward or accelerating just a little too early at our school crossing.

We want to issue a gentle, important reminder to all families: please slow down, be patient, and wait until Dennis, our wonderful school crossing supervisor, and every child have completely cleared the crosswalk and stepped safely onto the footpath before you drive on.

Even if Dennis has lowered his stop sign or is taking his final few steps toward the curb, Victorian road safety rules—and our own school community standards—require drivers to remain completely stationary until the crossing is 100% clear.

Dennis is out there every single day, in rain, hail, or shine, keeping our students safe. Let’s help him do his vital job! Taking a deep breath and waiting those extra two seconds ensures that everyone gets to school and returns home safely.

The countdown is officially on for our Grade 5 students as they prepare to trade their traditional desks for the vibrant streets and cultural landmarks of Melbourne! From Monday, October 12th to Wednesday, October 14th, our students will embark on an immersive, three-day Urban Exploration Camp designed to bring their classroom learning to life.

This year’s urban itinerary is packed with hands-on learning experiences. Students will step back in time to explore Victoria's rich history at the Melbourne Museum, push their creative boundaries with multimedia workshops at ACMI (Australian Centre for the Moving Image), and take in breathtaking 360-degree views of the city skyline from the Melbourne Skydeck. The camp focuses heavily on fostering independence, building peer relationships, and developing city navigation skills as students learn to safely navigate public transport networks.

Important Reminder for Families: To ensure a smooth departure, all medical forms, dietary requirement updates, and final permission slips must be completed and submitted via the parent portal by Friday, September 18th.

Mark your calendars! Our brilliant Grade 4 students are thrilled to invite families, friends, and the wider community to our annual Grade 4 STEM Showcase Evening. The highly anticipated event will take place on Thursday, November 19th, from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM in the school gymnasium.

Throughout this term, students have stepped into the roles of real-world engineers and scientists. Working in collaborative small groups, they have been busy researching, coding, and building interactive solutions to real-world problems. The showcase will feature a diverse array of student creations, ranging from custom robotics and smart micro:bit prototypes to impressive 3D-modeled architectural designs.

Event Highlights: Visitors will have the unique opportunity to interact directly with the displays, test student prototypes, and listen to our young innovators explain the design thinking behind their projects.

This evening is a wonderful celebration of curiosity, critical thinking, and collaborative teamwork. A light supper will be provided by the Parents Association, and entry is completely free. We cannot wait to see you there to celebrate and support the incredible achievements of our Grade 4 innovators!

The absolute highlight of our sporting calendar is just around the corner! Next Friday, our students will take to the field for our Annual School Sports Carnival—a day dedicated to teamwork, healthy competition, and celebrating our vibrant school community.

The Details:

• When: Friday, July 10th

• Time: 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM

• Where: The Main School Oval

This event is about participation and school spirit just as much as it is about winning. Whether your child is a champion sprinter or simply loves cheering on their peers in the novelty relays, there is an event for everyone to enjoy.

What You Need to Know:

• Dress Code: Students must wear their standard sports uniform paired with a t-shirt in their designated House color. Please ensure they have a wide-brimmed hat and sunscreen applied before drop-off!

• Food and Drink: Our P&F committee will be running a sausage sizzle at lunchtime. Please ensure your child also brings a refillable water bottle and plenty of healthy snacks to keep their energy up.

• Parent Helpers: We still need a few extra hands for the finish line and the BBQ! If you can spare an hour, please register your interest via the parent portal.

We encourage all families to come along, bring a picnic chair, and cheer from the sidelines. Let’s make this our best carnival yet!

Over the coming weeks, our students in Foundation to Year 2 (F–2) will be participating in focused mathematics assessments to track their learning progress and numerical development. Far from being intimidating, these sessions are designed to be engaging, supportive, and completely stress-free for our youngest learners.

The assessments will focus on core developmental milestones, including number recognition, basic counting strategies, patterns, and foundational spatial awareness. Rather than traditional pen-and-paper tests, teachers will utilize hands-on materials, interactive tasks, and game-based activities to capture an accurate snapshot of each student's current abilities. This practical approach ensures children can comfortably demonstrate their mathematical thinking in a familiar classroom environment.

Why This Matters: The data gathered from these assessments will be instrumental in helping our teaching team tailor future math sessions. It allows us to design effective differentiation, introduce targeted enabling prompts, and ensure every student is supported at their exact point of need.
